United Gets First Team Win In Revived Reserve Division Over Crew

DC United won the first game of a revived MLS Reserve Division Saturday over the Columbus Crew 3-2 at DC United's Auxiliary Field.

The Reserve Division was brought back to life with the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and the players union to give untested players to ability to gain game action to develop their skills. Team rosters were also increased to 30 players, so that teams could develop rosters for the division.

United struck first in the third minute as Brandon Barklage fed a pass to Rodrigo Brasesco, but Columbus evened the game five minutes later on an unassisted Bernardo Anor goal.

DC took a 2-1 lead into halftime on a 39th minute Blake Brettschneider goal, and upped the lead to 3-1 five minutes into the second half when Santino Quaranta connected with Branko Boskovic on a goal.

Cole Grossman scored an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute for the Crew.

Both reserve teams will play again Saturday -- United playing at Gillette Stadium versus the New England Revolution, Columbus hosting the New York Red Bulls at Crew Stadium -- after the completion of their respective franchise's senior team games.
