Toronto FC Goes Dutch With Three Signings

Major League Soccer's Toronto FC announced the signings Wednesday of three players with ties to the Netherlands.

Forward Javier Martina played for TFC technical director Aron Winter, who coached at Ajax during Martina's tenure. Martina joined their youth system in 2005 and was promoted three years later to the First Team. He was loaned to HFC Haarlem in the Dutch second division in 2010.

Forward Nick Soolsma began his career in the youth system of FC Volendam, then signed with Haarlem in 2007, playing in seven games, before spending a year at FC Chabab, then joining the amateur team VW Young Boys, helping them get promoted to the Dutch fourth division.

Midfielder Elbekay Bouchiba played for Willem II, then made his professional debut in 1998 with Alkmaar Zaanstreek in the top Dutch division, where he stayed for three seasons before moving on to Sparta Rotterdam (2001), FC Twente (2004) and Roda JC (2006).

Before joining Toronto, he played in Qatar with Al-Wakrah and Al-Shamal in their Stars League.
