The Portland Timbers Tuesday gained the services of midfielder Jack Jewsbury from Sporting Kansas City in return for allocation money, the Major League Soccer teams announced.
Jewsbury spent the last eight seasons with SKC, formerly known as the Kansas City Wizards, scoring 15 goals and 21 assists in 195 regular season matches during that stretch and was the team's 2008 Defensive Player of the Year after posting career highs in assists (seven) and points (13). He also ranked among the team's assists leaders in 2009 with five.
Drafted by Kansas City in the fifth round of the 2003 SuperDraft out of St. Louis University, Jewsbury was part of the team's 2004 season that included claiming the Western Conference championship, appearing in that season's MLS Cup championship game, and winning the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup crown.
He played twice for the US Men's National Team in 2009 -- against Sweden in Carson, CA January 24 and in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification game against Mexico February 11.
At St. Louis from 1999 to 2002, he had 38 goals and 25 assists in 80 games, leading them to four straight NCAA College Cup appearances, and was a two-time All-American, an Academic All-American and the Conference USA Player of the Year in 2000.
He was recently inducted into the Billiken Hall of Fame and was named to the Billken All-Half Century Team.
