The Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League announced the signing of Orlando native and defender Cristian Arrieta Thursday.
Arrieta played 16 games last season for the Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer before being released.
Before there, he played the 2008 and 2009 seasons with the Puerto Rico Islanders, then of the USL First Division.
He led them to the semifinals of the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League and the USL-1 Commissioner's Cup in 2008 for having the league's best regular season record.
In 2009, Arrieta had seven goals and two assists for the Islanders.
Arrieta also gained experience by playing in Italy.
