Stars Add Four New Players, Re-Sign Three From 2010 Team

The NSC Minnesota Stars of the North American Soccer League announced the signing Tuesday of four new players -- defender Cristiano Dias, midfielders Jeff Cosgriff and Andy Lorei, and forward Tino Nunez -- to the 2011 roster and re-signed Brian Kallman, Andrei Gotsmanov and Neil Hlavaty from the 2010 squad.

Dias comes to the Stars after four seasons with Miami FC, now rebranded as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, where he played in 79 games. He also played in Brazil for Sao Carlos, Sao Bento, Osasco and Desportivo Brazil.

Cosgriff played in the USSF Division 2 Pro League, the predecessor of the NASL, in 2010 for AC St. Louis and had two goals and an assist.

Lorei was loaned to the Michigan Bucks of the USL Premier Development League in 2010 by the Real Maryland Monarchs of the USL Second Division. He began his career in the USL First Division with the Rochester Rhinos in 2008, but was hampered by a torn anterior cruciate ligament. At Real Maryland, he had one goal and three assists in 14 games.

Nunez played for the Rhinos in 2010 and the 2008 and 2009 seasons with Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer, scoring one goal in 12 overall games. He was also loaned out to the Harrisburg City Islanders in USL-2 for five games in 2009. Nunez led the University of California-Santa Barbara to the 2006 NCAA College Cup title, their first national title in any sport, after taking them to the 2004 event.

Kallman played 16 games last season for Minnesota at either center or right back.

Gotsmanov dealt with injuries for much of last season, but did assist on three goals in 17 assists, two of the assists coming in a road game August 11 against the Portland Timbers.

Hlavaty had three goals in 22 games last season, including a game-winner at home May 29 against AC St. Louis.
