Kei Kamara led Kansas City by assisting Davy Arnaud on a 20th minute goal, then converted a penalty kick in the 61st minute.
Thierry Henry had an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute, then assisted Dane Richards on a 76th minute goal for the Red Bulls.
New York continues its preseason schedule Monday against MLS' FC Dallas in Casa Grande, AZ, then faces Mexican Primera Division team Atlas de Guadalajara Tuesday night at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.
