Rapids Signs Emory, Holody

The defending Major League Soccer champion Colorado Rapids signed midfielder Steven Emory and defender Mike Holody Tuesday.

Emory, who has never left the state of Colorado to play during his entire soccer career, was one of 57 players to be part of a three-day team tryout in January 2011 and is the first graduate of Metro State University to make it to MLS.

After leading Fort Collins High School to a state title in 2005, Emory took the Metro State Roadrunners to four winning seasons and two NCAA tournament appearances.

A member of the Rapids Youth Academy in 2007, he was named the Player of the Year in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 2009.

Holody, who finished his college career at Michigan as the school's all-time leader in minutes played at 6,498, was waived by the Rapids September 15, 2010 after not appearing in any games of the 2010 season. The fourth-round SuperDraft pick in 2009, he played in four games, more than any other Rapids rookie, and scored a goal.
