The Professional Arena Soccer League Wednesday announced the approval of the Phoenix Monsoon to join the league as a 2011-12 expansion team, marking the city's return to indoor soccer since the Arizona Thunder of the World Indoor Soccer League.
The team will likely be placed in the Western Division with the two-time defending league champion San Diego Sockers, another 2011-12 newcomer in the Anaheim Bolts, the California Cougars, Tacoma Stars and Revolucion Tijuana.
