Major League Soccer's Chivas USA announced the return of midfielder Francisco "Panchito" Mendoza after a one-season absence and signed goalkeeper Sergio Arias Wednesday, both coming on loan from parent club Chivas de Guadalajara in Mexico.
Mendoza scored five goals and 16 assists in 111 regular season games from 2005 to 2009, the most appearances by a Mexican-born player in MLS history.
In 2009, he returned to Chivas de Guadalajara for the 2009 Clausura in the Mexican Primera Division, appearing five times in all competitions and three in the league, as well as eight times for Tapatio, the parent club's reserve team.
He then played the 2009 season in the Apertura with Jaguares of Chiapas, playing in one game, before going to Club Tijuana of the second-tier Liga de Ascenso in the 2010 Clausura, scoring one goal in six games.
Mendoza last played in the 2010 Apertura for Indios de Cuidad Juarez, starting 18 games and scoring three goals.
Arias joined Chivas de Guadalajara's youth system and also played for Tapito. In 2007-08, he signed with Dorados de Sinatoa of the Liga de Ascensio, playing in 36 games betweent the 2007 Apertura and 2008 Clausura seasons.
In 2005, he played on Mexico's team at the FIFA U-17 World Championship in Peru, playing every minute in six games, shutting out four opponents and giving up three goals in the other two games. Mexico won the title 3-0 over Brazil.
