Montero Leads Sounders With Brace In Win Over Rapids For Community Shield

Fredy Montero had two goals and assisted on Jhon Kennedy Hurtado's opening-game score in the 60th minute as the host Seattle Sounders beat the defending Major League Soccer champion Colorado Rapids 3-1 to win the MLS Community Shield preseason game Wednesday.

After Jeff Larentowicz scored Colorado's goal on a 63rd minute penalty kick to tie the game, Montero fired a pass from O'Brian White into the back of the net four minutes later, then scored again in the 78th minute.

Seattle ended their preseason with the win and prepare to host the defending Western Conference champion Los Angeles Galaxy in the 2011 MLS season opener Tuesday at Qwest Field.

Colorado, meanwhile, will end their preseason slate Saturday against the Vancouver Whitecaps before they open defense of their MLS Cup title March 19 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO against the Portland Timbers.
