Mexican Teams Advance In PASL North American Championships

Both of the teams representing Liga Mexicana de Futbol Rapido advanced Thursday to the semifinal round of the Professional Arena Soccer League's third annual North American Championships at Cincinnati Gardens in Cincinnati.

In the opening game, Guerreros de La Raza de Guadalajara beat the Tacoma Stars 9-6 thanks to braces by three players -- Eduardo Rodrigo Florez, Horacio Alvarez and Edgar Quinto Vasquez -- and solo goals from Omar Santillan, Sergio Morales and Juan Carlos Delgadillo.

Brayton Knapp and Leighton O'Brien had two goals each for Tacoma and Alex Megson and Vitalie Bulala added a single each.

Guadalajara will next face the host Cincinnati Kings in the nightcap Friday.

In Thursday's second quarterfinal match, PPM Sidekicks de Estadio de Mexico pummeled Calgary United, champion of the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League, 10-2, and will face the defending PASL champion San Diego Sockers in Friday's opening game.

The winners will meet for the North American Championship Saturday night.
