The Richmond Kickers, set to open the 2011 USL PRO season at City Stadium Saturday against Orlando City Soccer Club, Tuesday signed midfielder Michael Callahan, who played in 47 games over the 2009 and 2010 seasons under Orlando City's former name, the Austin Aztex.
The native of Cary, NC started 79 of 82 games for North Carolina and was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Men's Collegiate Scholar All-American and NSCAA/adidas All-American teams in his senior year. He finished his Tar Heel career with 10 goals and 13 assists.
