FC Tampa Bay of the North American Soccer League announced the signing Friday of defensive midfielder Tony McManus to a 2011 deal with a club option for the 2012 season.
McManus played 51 games in the last two seasons for the Portland Timbers in the USL First Division (2009) and the USSF Division 2 Pro League (2010), and was part of the team that won the 2009 USL-1 championship after having a record 24-game unbeaten streak.
Before going to Portland, he played three seasons (2005-08) for the USL-1's Atlanta Silverbacks, scoring seven goals and three assists in 156 games. He also led the team to the 2007 USL-1 championship game.
McManus played collegiately at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, where he was a First Team All-Conference USA and College Soccer Times All-American and a C-USA Defender Of The Year.
He was drafted by the Chicago Fire in the 2004 Major League Soccer SuperDraft.
