FC New York Adds Irish Defender And Midfielder

FC New York of USL PRO announced the signings Friday of Ireland-born defender Owen Morrison and midfielder Stephen Roche to their roster.

Morrison last played for Portadown in 2010 and came to them from the Sligo Rovers, where he played in 2009.

He began his playing career in the youth system of Derry City in the League of Ireland, then, later, began his pro career at Sheffield Wednesday, who would later loan him out to Hull City. He scored eight goals in 55 games with Sheffield.

Morrison later ventured to Dunfermine Athletic for two seasons, then returned to Derry City before going to Sligo.

Roche spent the summer of 2009 at University College Dublin after playing for Greystones AFC and was part of the Irish Colleges team that played in the 2007 and 2009 World Student Games in Thailand and Belgrade, respectively.
