FC Edmonton Roster Grows By Four Before Arizona Training Camp Starts

With their inaugural training camp opening this Sunday in Arizona, FC Edmonton of the North American Soccer League announced the signings Monday of four more players to their roster -- midfielder Mutanda Kwesele, midfielder/forward Chris Lemire, midfielder/defender Paul Matthjs and defender Niko Saler.

A native of Zambia, Kwesele, who now calls Seattle home, played in 2005 and 2006 for Santa Clara University before transferring to Seattle University for the 2006 through 2008 seasons. He last signed in 2009 to play for the Portland Timbers in the USL First Division.

Lemire played professionally in USL for the Calgary Storm, Montreal Impact and Edmonton Aviators. He also has been on the U-17 through U-23 Canadian National teams and played on the country's team at the 2006 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Cup.

Matthjs helped FC Groningen in the Netherlands gain promotion to the top soccer league in the country in one of two stints there, then was transferred from his first sting in 2000 to AZ Alkmaar for $650,000. He last played in his home county for BV Veendam in 2009-10.

Saler led Team Alberta to the U-15 Rocky Mountain Cup and the Calgary Foothills Crew to a third place finish at the U-16 BMO National Club Championships.
