Forward Ellis McLaughlin, a former member of the US U-17 national team, signed a contract Thursday to join Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes for the 2011 season.
McLaughlin led Washington state-based Crossfire Soccer Club to five state titles and played one year of high school soccer at Bishop Blanchet High School, where he was named to the All-Area Team and was the team's Most Valuable Player, before joining the US Soccer Residency Program in Bradenton, FL.
The leading scorer of the US U-17 team from 2005 to 2007 with 14 goals in 38 games, he played one season collegiately at University of Washington and had three goals and three assists in 13 games.
McLaughlin left the States for the German Bundesliga in January 2008 and played five games for Hertha BSC's reserve division before suffering an injury in January 2009.
