The Portland Timbers and the San Jose Earthquakes played to a 1-1 draw Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium at the University of Santa Clara in both teams' final Major League Soccer preseason game.
Eric Brunner scored for the Timbers off an assist from newly-named team captain Jack Jewsbury in the 52nd minute as Portland closed their first MLS preseason campaign undefeated at 2-0-6.
Defending league Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot winner Chris Wondolowski evened the score in the 69th minute off a penalty kick.
The Timbers will open their first MLS season this Saturday on the road against the reigning MLS Cup champion Colorado Rapids while the Earthquakes will host Real Salt Lake that day.
