Former San Jose Earthquakes defender Kelly Gray re-joined his former Major League Soccer team Tuesday as their official club ambassador.
In his new position, he will represent the team at community appearances, write blogs for the team's website, co-host the team's pregame show, contribute video content on the team's YouTube channel and website, and will serve as color analyst on select radio broadcasts during the 2011 season.
Gray, who spent the first three and a half seasons of his professional career with the Chicago Fire, starting over 20 games, was traded to San Jose the first time in June 2005 and the Earthquakes went 15-1-4 over 20 games that season with him scoring a goal and two assists.
In 2006, he was part of the relocated Earthquakes, now the Houston Dynamo, where he played in 18 games during their MLS Cup championship run, but was traded during the 2007 season to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Gray went to the Colorado Rapids in 2008, playing in two games, before returning to San Jose in a midseason trade, playing in a total of 21 games over the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
Before being drafted in MLS in 2002, he played three seasons at the University of Portland, where he was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American in his senior season, and played for the US U-20 and U-23 teams.
