DC United Wins Challenge Cup Again: Battery Loses...AGAIN!

With a record of 2-0-1 over the three-matchday event, Major League Soccer's DC United defended their Carolina Challenge Cup title at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC Saturday with a 2-2 draw to Toronto FC.

The event is sponsored by the Charleston Battery of USL PRO, who continued to extend their streak of never winning this event Saturday by playing to a scoreless draw Saturday to MLS' Chicago Fire.

Former US Men's National Team player Charlie Davies scored his fourth goal of the preseason for United in the 12th minute off a Chris Pontius assist, but Toronto's Dwayne De Rosario converted a penalty kick seven minutes later to tie the score for the first time.

Toronto would take the 2-1 halftime lead in the 28th minute on an unassisted Maicon Santos goal, but United got its team-leading sixth goal of the preseason from Joseph Ngwenya in the 62nd minute off a Santino Quaranta assist for the final goal.

DC United, who finished the 2010 MLS season with the league's worst record, finished the 2011 preseason with a 7-0-2 record.
