Major League Soccer's DC United Thursday signed forward Blake Brettschneider of the University of South Carolina, the team's 21st overall pick in the 2011 Supplemental Draft.
He led the Gamecocks in 2010 in goals (seven) and assists (10), with three of his goals being game-winners, and was named Conference USA;s co-Most Valuable Player and co-Offensive Player of the Year awards. His assist total also led the conference.
In four seasons at South Carolina, he had 19 goals and 17 assists.
He started all games for them in his first season en route to being named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team, then as a sophomore, he had six goals and two assists and was named to the All-Conference team. He again started every game in the 2009 season, earning two goals and an assist, winning a spot on the All-C-USA First Team.
Brettschneider scored two goals of United February 19 in a 3-1 friendly win over the USL Premier Development League's Ventura County Fusion, then scored the lone goal three days later against the University of California-Santa Barbara.
