Omar Cummings assisted on Jeff Larentowicz's goal in the eighth minute, then had an unassisted goal in the 29th minute as the Colorado Rapids opened defense of their 2010 Major League Soccer championship with a 3-1 beating of the new Portland Timbers Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO.
After Cummings' second goal, Jamie Smith popped off another unassisted goal in the 30th minute.
Portland's first MLS goal came in the 80th minute from a Kenny Cooper unassisted play.
The Rapids meet Chivas USA this Saturday at The Home Depot Center, while the Timbers face Toronto FC at BMO Field in Toronto that day.
