Battery Defender Wilson Decides To Come Back For 2011 Season

After previously announcing his retirement from the game, defender John Wilson of the USL PRO's Charleston Battery said Thursday he has decided to play for the team in the 2011 season.

Wilson played on the team's final USL Second Division Championship team in 2010, making 15 appearances.

He has appeared in 181 games, third best all-time, played in 16,221 minutes and has a goal and nine assists to show for it.

This will be the continuation of Wilson's third stint with the Battery, which started in 2008.

He began his career with the Battery in 1999, left in 2000 to play in Major League Soccer for the Kansas City Wizards, now Sporting Kansas City, for the 2001 season. Wilson returned to Charleston in 2001 and stayed until the 2003 season, then spent the 2004 season with the Rochester Rhinos in USL First Division before returning to MLS with DC United from 2005 to 2008.

A two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference player at Clemson in 1997 and 1998, he finished his Tigers career with 18 goals and 35 assists in 57 games.

In his 1998 season, he led the Tigers to the conference championship, a number one ranking and to an Elite Eight finish in the NCAA College Cup tournament.
