The Western Mass Pioneers of the USL Premier Development League announced the signings Monday of five players who competed for Brown University in 2010 -- midfielders Evan Coleman, Thomas McNamara, Taylor Gorman, Jay Hayward and forward T.J. Popolizio.
All five were part of a Brown team that made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Men's College Cup tournament, defeating Boston College and ninth-ranked Connecticut before losing to California, and finished tenth nationally in the sport.
Coleman had two goals and three assists after starting 17 games in 2010. He started 48 games for Brown over three seasons.
A four-year starter for the Amherst Regional team before joining Brown, he was named Western Mass Most Valuable Player and to the All-New England Team in his senior year of high school.
Pizzolito played for new Pioneers head coach Joe Calabrese when Calabrese served last season as assistant coach for the USL PDL"s Albany BWP Highlanders.
