Max Ferdinand had a five-point night with a third quarter two-point goal and a three-point overtime game-winner as the Baltimore Blast edged the last-place Chicago Riot Sunday at the Odeum Sports & Expo Center in Villa Park, IL 16-13 and moved a step closer to capturing the 2010-11 Major Indoor Soccer League regular season championship and becoming host of the league's championship game.
Warren Ukah also scored a three-point goal and Machel Millwood and Matt Watson each had a brace of two-pointers as the playoff-bound Blast improved their record to a league-best 14-3, two games ahead of the similarly playoff-bound Milwaukee Wave (12-5).
Novi Marojevic had four points for the Riot, 4-14 on the season, on a three-point goal and an assist on Fred Degand's goal. Ante Cop, Alex Megson, Semir Mesanovic and Eric Duda also had two-point goals for Chicago.
Both the Blast and the Riot play for the final time this Friday in Baltimore, then the Blast meet the Wave in Milwaukee Sunday in what could decide the regular season league championship.
The Omaha Vipers and the Missouri Comets, currently tied at 7-11, will face off in the final games of the season to see who gets the third and playoff spot.
The regular season league champion earns a bye to the league championship game, which they host, while the second- and third-place teams meet in a two-game, aggregate-goal series to determine the regular season champion's opponent in the final game.
