Women's Major League Soccer Debuting In 2011

A new women's professional soccer league, Women's Major League Soccer, will begin playing its debut season May 15, according to OurSportsCentral.com and Wikipedia.com.

The league will have two divisions -- an eight-team Elite Division (Chicago Breeze, Cleveland Internationals, Columbus Crew, FC Indiana, Fort Wayne SC, Grand Rapids Alliance, Indiana Invaders FC, Springfield (MO) Demize and a five-team Division 2 (Evansville, IN and Michigan City, Kalamazoo, Lansing and Westfield -- all in Michigan).

The Elite Division will begin play May 15 and each team will have a 14-game regular season.

Teams will earn three points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss with a three-step tiebreaking system (goal difference then goals for then head-to-head record).

At the end of the Elite season, the team with the most points will be named WMLS champion with the last place team in the standings demoted to Division 2. The Division 2 champion will then be promoted to the Elite Division.
