USWNT Beat Canada At Four Nations; All Four Teams Tied At 1-0-1

Lindsay Tarpley assisted Lauren Cheney on a goal in the 54th minute and scored the game-winning goal with Cheney's help in the 70th minute as the US Women's National Team defeated Canada 2-1 Sunday at the Four Nations Tournament in Chongqing, China and set up an interesting final day to the tournament Tuesday.

The win ended Canada's 11-game unbeaten streak against the US team.

Tarpley's goal was the 31st of her career, moving her past Brandi Chastain into 11th place on the team's all-time scoring list, and was her first goal for the team since a 4-0 win over the same country May 25, 2009 in Toronto.

She tore her anterior cruciate ligament at the end of the inaugural season of Women's Professional Soccer in 2009 with the Chicago Red Stars and her appearance in China was her second international game since the injury.

All four teams in the tournament -- the others being the host country, China, and Sweden -- are tied in the standings with records of 1-0-1 and four points.

For the USWNT to win the tournament, they must beat China Tuesday and hope Sweden and Canada play to a tie.

If that doesn't happen, the US must hope they can win one of three tiebreakers against whomever wins the Sweden-Canada game -- goal differential, goals scored or head-to-head result.
