Timbers Add 2010 Stars Brown, Purdy To 2011 MLS Roster

The Portland Timbers, joining Major League Soccer this season, announced the signings Wednesday of two players from the 2010 USSF Division 2 Pro League season -- goalkeeper Adin Brown and defender Steve Purdy.

Brown returned to the States in 2010 after playing 69 games over five seasons in Norway with Aalesund FC.

The third overall pick in the 2000 MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids, Brown started a total of 83 games in five seasons for the Rapids (2000, 2001), Tampa Bay Mutiny (2001) and New England Revolution (2002-04).

With New England, he led them to three straight playoff appearances and the 2002 MLS Cup championship game.

He also played on the U-23 US Men's National Team from 1998 to 2000, helping them earn a bronze medal at the 1999 Pan-American Games and qualify for the 2000 Olympics.

Purdy played 1,536 minutes over 24 games for the Timbers in 2010.

He began his professional career in Germany's 2 Bundesliga with TSV 1860 Munich from 2007 to 2008, then came home in 2009 to play for MLS' FC Dallas.

He also was a member of the US' U-18, U-20, U-23 and senior men's national team.
