The Hamilton Avalanche of the USL W-League named Joe Moscato as the team's first head coach Tuesday and his wife, Carmelina, will serve as an assistant coach.
Mr. Moscato formerly was affiliated with the Dixie Soccer Club and led seven teams to Ontario Cup championships and one team to a national championship.
He also served as an assistant coach with the W-League's Toronto Lynx in 2004, where current Hamilton technical director Brett Mosen was the head coach.
Moscato's wife recently helped Canada's Women's National Team qualify for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup this summer in Germany by winning the CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament.
She played on two Penn State teams that advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Women's College Cup tournament, was an assistant coach at the University of Louisville until 2009, and played in the W-League for the Ottawa Fury and the Vancouver Whitecaps.
