Player-head coach Greg Howes had a hat trick to give the Tacoma Stars a 7-5 road victory Saturday in Professional Arena Soccer League play at Stockton Arena over the California Cougars.
The game also served as a quarterfinal game in the 2010-11 US Open Arena Soccer Championship and, with the win, Tacoma now moves onto the semifinals, where they meet the winner of this Saturday's game with the defending league and USOASC champion San Diego Sockers at the Premier Arena Soccer League's Las Vegas Knights.
Clemente Fonseca led the Cougars with two goals and an assist.
The Stars, 6-3-0 and in second place in the PASL's Western Division, travel Friday to meet the Kitsap Pumas.
The Cougars, 2-8-0 and in last place in the division, heads north of the border to play Calgary United of the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League Saturday.
