FC Tampa Bay of the North American Soccer League announced Tuesday former Tampa Bay Rowdies player-head coach Ricky Hill is returning to the team as its new head coach, according to TampaBay.com.
Hill replaces Paul Daglish, who was fired with two games left to play in the 2010 USSF Division 2 Pro League season.
Hill returns to Tampa Bay after serving as technical director of CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh in the Trinidad & Tobago Football League, where they won the league's championship this season, as well as the First Citizen Cup and the Caribbean Club Championship.
At the 2003 CONCACAF Club Championship, Hill was named Coach of the Year.
He played professionally for 17 years, mostly with Luton Town FC in England from 1976 to 1989 and scored 54 goals. Luton Town won a Second Division Championship in 1981 and the Littlewoods Cup in 1988.
After stints in France (Le Havre FC) and back in England (Leicester City) from 1989 to 1991, Hill came to the Rowdies, then of the American Soccer League as player-head coach, leading to league championship game appearances in 1991 and 1992. Hill was named a league All-Star and their Coach of the Year in 1992.
Hill returned to Luton Hill in 2000 as its head coach, but left after the team went 2-11-8 in 21 games.
He would later coach the U-19 Sheffield Wednesday and U-17 Tottenham Hotspur youth teams.
Hill also played three times for England's men's national team between 1982 and 1986.
