The defending Western Conference champion Los Angeles Galaxy became the first Major League Soccer franchise to have a player-coach with the re-signing of defender Gregg Berhalter to a one-year deal Wednesday.
He joined the team in April 2009 and has appeared in 42 regular season games. The Galaxy were 9-4-3 in the 16 games he played in 2010 and they had eight shutouts.
