Galaxy Sign Angel To Multi-Year Designated Player Contract

Major League Soccer's defending Western Conference regular season and Supporters Shield champion, the Los Angeles Galaxy, announced Wednesday the signing of former New York Red Bulls forward Juan Pablo Angel to a multi-year Designated Player, joining David Beckham and Landon Donovan as the team's maximum three such players allowed on a team roster.

After scoring 58 goals in 102 regular season games for New York over four seasons, Angel's contract was not renewed, making him eligible for selection in the league's inaugural Re-Entry Draft, created through the terms of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement between MLS and its players union.

The Galaxy chose Angel in the Stage 2 of the process December 15.
