Galaxy Loses Buddle To Germany, Jones To Cosmos

Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy announced Monday forward Edson Buddle, who had a career-high 17 goals and led the team to the Western Conference regular season title and the Supporters Shield in his final season in 2010, signed a 2 1/2 year deal to play for FC Ingolstadt in Germany's 2 Bundesliga.

Buddle was acquired by the Galaxy in a 2007 trade with Toronto FC and scored 42 goals in 87 regular season games with Los Angeles.

In a 10-year career with the Columbus Crew, New York Red Bulls, Toronto and Los Angeles, he scored 90 goals in 231 regular season games.

Buddle also played on the 2010 US World Cup team.

FC Ingelstodt is in 17th place in 2 Bundesliga, Germany's relegation league, and Buddle could debut with the team this Sunday when they play league-leading Augsberg.

In a separate announcement, the Galaxy said former player and assistant coach Cobi Jones is leaving the team to become the associate director of soccer for the New York Cosmos, a possible Major League Soccer or North American Soccer League expansion team.

Jones played for the Galaxy from 1996 to 2007, scoring 70 goals and 91 assists in 306 regular season games, then stayed on with the franchise as an assistant coach. He also played on three US World Cup teams.
