Women's Professional Soccer announced Tuesday superstar forward Marta, in the final year of her league-arranged contract, will play the 2011 season for the expansion Western New York Flash.
Named FIFA;s Women's World Player of the Year for a record fifth consecutive year, Marta is the only player in WPS history to win the Michelle Akers Player of the Year award and the league's Golden Boot as its top scorer.
She originally joined the Los Angeles Sol in the league's inaugural season in 2009, leading them to the first regular season league title before the team lost to Sky Blue FC in the championship final and folded before the 2010 season began.
Marta played last season for the FC Gold Pride, the wire-to-wire regular season champion and eventual league champion, before they folded prior to the upcoming season.
