FC Tampa Bay Signs USSF-D2 Player Of The Year Ambersley To Deal

FC Tampa Bay of the North American Soccer League announced the signing Tuesday of forward Mike Ambersley, the USSF Division 2 Pro League's 2010 Player of the Year and the Offensive Player of the Year for the league's AC St. Louis franchise, to a contract for the 2011 season with a club option for 2012.

Ambersley finished sixth in the league last season in goals scored with 11.

He was a two-time, back-to-back NCAA champion (2002 and 2003) at Indiana, where he played from 2001 to 2005, along with being named the Big 10 Conference Freshman of the Year and a Soccer America All-Freshman Team selection, both in 2001.

Ambersley also played on the US U-20 National Team and in the USL Premier Development League with the Chicago Fire Premier in the college offseason.

Drafted in 2006 by Major League Soccer's FC Dallas, he chose to play for the USL First Division's Rochester Rhinos, where he had two goals and an assist in 32 matches between the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

He went to the USL-1's Atlanta Silverbacks in 2008, but sat out the entire season with an injury, then returned to the Rhinos for the 2009 season.
