Earthquakes Keep Bingham In California Thanks To MLS Lottery

The San Jose Earthquakes won a weighted lottery Wednesday to gain the services of Cal-Berkeley goalkeeper David Bingham for the 2011 Major League Soccer season and keep him in the Golden State.

The Earthquakes were one of 13 MLS teams who participated in the lottery, held whenever a player signs a league contract after the annual SuperDraft is held, and had only an 8.8 percent chance of winning his rights -- the New England Revolution (23.6), Toronto FC (17.9), Chicago Fire (15.3) and Seattle Sounders (10.8) had a better chance to acquire him.

Bingham, who recently signed a Generation adidas contract to become the 11th member of its 2011 class, had a trial with Fulham of the English Premier League before signing with MLS.
