Dynamo Signs Academy Products Soto, Dixon To Contracts

Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo announced the signings of midfielder Josue Soto and forward Alex Dixon, who came through the ranks of the team's youth academy, to contracts Wednesday.

The team stated Saturday offers were made to both players, the Dynamo's third and fourth home-grown players, joining goalkeeper Tyler Deric and midfielder Francisco Navas Cobo.

Soto, born in Fort Worth, TX but raised in Monterrey, Mexico, played his first two seasons of college soccer at Campbell University before transferring to SMU for his final two seasons.

At SMU, he led the Mustangs to the quarterfinals of the 2010 NCAA College Cup tournament and, in that same season, was named a second team All-Midwest Region and second team All-Conference USA player after leading the team in assists with seven.

He recently took part in the 2011 adidas MLS Combine in Fort Lauderdale, FL and is the first home grown player in league history to sign with a team after finishing his college eligibility.

Dixon, a former Parade magazine and National Soccer Coaches Association of America High School All-American, played three seasons at North Carolina, leading the Tar Heels to the College Cup event every season.
