Donatelli Heading To Earthquakes

Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes announced the signing Friday of midfielder Tony Donatelli, who had spent the last few seasons with two MLS expansion teams -- the Montreal Impact and the Vancouver Whitecaps -- while they were in either the USL First Division or the USSF Division 2 Pro League.

Donatelli most recently played for the Impact from mid-2008 to 2010, leading them to a USL-1 title in 2009 and the semifinals of the USL-1 (2008) and the USSF D-2 postseason playoffs as well as the Voyaguers Cup for winning the Nutrilite Canadian Championship in 2008, earning a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League.

In 2010 in USSF-D2, he started 27 of 30 games and had seven goals and three assists for the Impact after scoring two goals and three assists in the regular season and two goals in four playoff appearances for Montreal in the 2009 USL-1 playoffs.

In 2008, he split time with both teams. joining Montreal via trade in June. Donatelli played a combined 26 games that season, but scored all four of his goals for Montreal. He also played in eight CCL games with the Impact, scoring three goals overall.

In 2007 with the Whitecaps, he started 20 of 27 games with four goals and two assists after scoring two goals and two assists in 24 appearances, including seven starts, in his debut season of 2006.

Donatelli had 19 goals and 12 assists overall in 134 appearances, 84 of them starts, over his five years with both teams in both leagues.

He also played indoor soccer during the outdoor offseason with the Philadelphia Kixx of the Major Indoor Soccer League between 2006 and 2008, scored 35 goals in 59 appearances and winning an MISL championship in 2006.

Donatelli played college soccer at Philadelphia's Temple University, finishing his four-year career tied for first in career assists with 20 and eighth in points in team history with 64.

In his senior season with the Owls, he was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Conference and All Mid-Atlantic Region First Team and was named the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Player of the Year winner.
