Crew Welcome Back Cunningham With Multi-Year Contract

Forward Jeff Cunningham, the second all-time leading scorer in Major League Soccer history, returned to the team he began his career with -- the Columbus Crew -- by signing a multi-year contract Friday.

Cunningham was selected by Columbus in Stage 2 of last month's inaugural MLS Re-Entry Draft after being made available to it by FC Dallas after scoring 11 goals in 2010, a season after winning the league's Budweiser Golden Boot Award with 17.

He was originally drafted by the Crew in the first round of the 1998 MLS SuperDraft and played seven seasons, leaving after the 2004 season. During that time, he scored 62 goals and was a league Best XI pick in 2002.

After the Crew, he played in MLS for the Colorado Rapids, Real Salt Lake, Toronto FC and Dallas.

Cunningham is one goal behind former DC United forward Jamie Moreno, now retired, on the league's all-time scoring list at 132.
