Beat Adds USWNT Defender Heather Mitts To 2011 Roster

The Atlanta Beat, who had the worst record in Women's Professional Soccer last season, improved themselves again Friday by signing current US Women's National Team defender Heather Mitts to a 2011 contract.

Mitts started 15 of 17 games last season for the league's Philadelphia Independence after joining WPS in 2009 with the Boston Breakers, whom the league assigned her to as part of a USWNT allocation process.

She previously played in Philadelphia with the Charge of the Women's United Soccer Association from 2001 to 2003.

Mitts has played 114 times for her country's national team, earning gold medals on the 2004 and 2008 Olympic teams.
