Whitecaps Make Trade With Toronto FC

The Vancouver Whitecaps obtained the eighth overall pick in next month's Major League Soccer SuperDraft Thursday by trading defender/midfielder Nathan Sturgis, their third round pick in Wednesday's Expansion Draft, to Toronto FC.

Sturgis was left unprotected for Wednesday's draft by the Seattle Sounders. This will be his first season with a non-West Coast MLS franchise as he has previously played for Real Salt Lake and the Los Angeles Galaxy.

With the trade, the Whitecaps now have the first and eighth picks in the SuperDraft's first round and the first pick in the second through fourth rounds.

The SuperDraft will be held January 15 in Baltimore at the annual convention of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
