US Women's National Team head coach Pia Sundhage announced a 24-player roster for their upcoming FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying series with Italy, in which the winner of the two-game aggregate-goal series earns the final berth in next year's tournament in Germany.
The US, the world's number one women's soccer team that expected to make the finals of the recent CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Cancun, Mexico, lost to the host country in the semifinals and defeated Costa Rica in the consolation game Monday to earn this second chance to claim a spot in the field against Italy, ranked 11th in the world.
The first leg of the series will be next Saturday at Euganeo Stadium in Padova, Italy, with the second leg set for November 27 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL. Both games will be broadcast online on ESPN3.com.
Sundhage will only be able to suit up 18 players for each game.
