Former German player and coach Jurgen Klinsmann was hired Wednesday by Major League Soccer's Toronto FC to help reorganize the franchise's infrastructure and will work closely with interim director of soccer Earl Cochrane and assistant general manager and former player Jim Brennan.
As a player, Klinsmann scored 227 goals in 506 games throughout Europe and scored 47 goals in 108 international games for Germany, leading them to the 1990 FIFA World Cup and 1996 UEFA European Championship.
He was a two-time German Footballer of the Year in 1988 and 1994 and England's Footballer of the Year in 1995.
As a coach, he led the German men's national team from 2004 to 2006 and was head coach of Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga from 2008 to 2009. He was, at one time, considered to take the head coaching job with MLS' Los Angeles Galaxy, but the job eventually went to former MLS and US Men's National Team coach Bruce Arena.
