Saborio, Convey Nab Individual Postseason Player Honors In MLS

Major League Soccer announced Wednesday Real Salt Lake forward Alvaro Saborio was named the 2010 Newcomer of the Year and San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Bobby Convey was named the 2010 Comeback Player of the Year.

Saborio, who defeated New York Red Bulls teammates Joel Lindpere and Thierry Henry for the award, finished ninth in the league's Golden Boot race with 12 goals, a team-high, and added four assists in starting 23 games this season.

Convey had a team-high ten assists, five of them game winners, and started a career-high 28 games in 2010 as he led the Earthquakes to their first postseason berth since the franchise was reborn in 2008.

Prior to the 2009 MLS season, Convey played for Reading in the English Premier League and suffered a knee injury, which affected his play for San Jose, scoring only a goal and an assist.

Convey beat out Chris Albright of the New York Red Bulls and FC Dallas' Brek Shea for the award.
