Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake announced forward Alvaro Saborio and defender David Horst underwent successful right knee surgeries Thursday at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center and will both be able to take part in the team's preseason training camp in January.
Saborio, who won the team's Golden Boot award with 18 goals in 32 games between MLS play and the CONCACAF Champions League and was named the league's Newcomer of the Year, had "floating bodies" removed from his knee.
Horst, who has been on loan all season to the Puerto Rico Islanders in the USSF Division 2 League, had a small tear in his meniscus repaired as well as had cartilage smoothed out.
RSL, who were not able to defend their MLS Cup championship this season, will face the Columbus Crew in a two-game total goal quarterfinal CCL series February 22 at Crew Stadium and March 1 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, UT.
