Amy Rodriguez scored in the 40th minute as the US Women's National Team, the world's top-ranked women's soccer team, defeated Italy 1-0 Saturday in the second game of a last-chance qualification series at Toyota Park to earn the 16th and final berth in the field for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany.
The US, who won the aggregate-goal series 2-0, thanks to Alex Morgan scoring the lone goal in the first leg last Saturday in Padova, Italy, were forced to play in this series after being eliminated in the semifinals of the CONCACAF qualifying tournament in Cancun, Mexico, finishing third after beating Costa Rica in the consolation game.
The draw for the FIFA Women's World Cup, to take place throughout Germnay June 26 through July 17, will be held in Germany Monday at 1:25 p.m. US Eastern time and can be viewed online at ESPN3.com.
