The Rochester Rhinos, the champions of the USSF Division 2 Pro League and joinng USL PRO in 2011, announced Tuesday current general manager Pat Ercoli has been promoted to president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.
Ercoli began his career in soccer as a player in 1976 for the Toronto Italia in the National Soccer League, then played the next season for the Toronto Castors. He also played in the North American Soccer League for the Rochester Lancers from 1978-1980.
Ercoli also played ten seasons of indoor soccer with the Buffalo Bandits, Baltimore Blast and Detroit Rockers of the Major Indoor Soccer League and the Cleveland Force of the National Professional Soccer League.
In 1996, he became the head coach of the Rhinos through 2004 and amassed a record of 154-77-18. He led them to three USL First Division titles in 1998, 2000 and 2001 and to the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament title in 1996 and 1999.
In 2002, he was named to the inaugural USL Hall Of Fame class.
Ercoli played for the Rhinos in their first season of 1996 and later served as a color analyst on radio and TV broadcasts of their games in 2009, when he returned to the team as their general manager.
