New England Revolution forward Taylor Twellman, who has not competed in Major League Soccer since scoring two goals in a June 7, 2009 game against the New York Red Bulls, will announcer his retirement Wednesday at a news conference at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, according to The Washington Post.
Twellman has dealt with a number of concusssions during his career and will claim that as the reason for his retirement.
At the time the 30-year-old Twellman last played, he became the fifth player in MLS history to score over 100 goals in his career at 101 and was named the league's Player of the Week.
A five-time MLS All-Star, Twellman was drafted in the first round of the 2002 SuperDraft by the Revolution. He also played for the US Men's National Team.
Twellman has been working as a color commentator on select televised matches and has offered expert anaylsis on coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup for a local network in New England and also appeared on ESPN's coverage of the MLS Cup playoffs.
