17-year-old Honduras-born forward Andy Najar, the tenth youngest player to start a match in Major League Soccer, won four postseason awards for the 2010 Major League Soccer season announced Monday by DC United, the league's worst team this season.
Najar, who became the second player from their youth academy to sign a Generation adidas contract with the senior team, won the team's Volkswagen Most Valuable Player, Volkswagen Fans Choice, Volkswagen Goal of the Year and the team's Golden Boot award.
Najar started 22 of 26 matches this season, scoring five goals and an assist, and scored two goals in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament, including a goal against defending league champion Real Salt Lake in a June 2 play-in game to enter the tournament field.
Jed Zayner, who joined United in a midseason trade from the Columbus Crew, was named the team's VISA Defender of the Year after playing 798 minutes over all nine games he started. United also received a 2011 fourth round pick in the MLS SuperDraft and the Crew earned a 2012 second round SuperDraft pick.
Midfielder Stephen King won the Coaches' Award after starting 16 of 20 games after coming to the team from the Seattle Sounders April 20, playing in 1,415 minutes this season.
Defender Devon McTavish won the team's MLS W.O.R.K.S. Humanitarian of the Year award for his efforts to win a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project to benefit United Soccer Club, an after-school program promoting physical activity, soccer and healthy living to local youth.
