MLS Timbers Release Eight Members Of USSF D-2 Team

Making their transition to Major League Soccer for the 2011 season, the expansion Portland Timbers announced Monday the release of eight members of the franchise that played in the 2010 season of the USSF Division 2 Pro League -- Ian Joy, Johan Claesson, Brian Farber, Derek Gaudet, George Josten, Ibad Muhamadu, Keith Savage and Ross Smith.

Joy started in all 23 regular games he played in this season, posting an assist in his 1,966 minutes of play.

Claesson started 11 of 17 regular season games in 2010, posting and an assist in 909 minutes in his second season with the team.

Farber, also in his second season, was limited to playing in seven games due to injuries and had played in 36 games over two seasons.

Gaudet, in his debut season, played 490 minutes and started seven of eight regular season games.

Jordan, who joined the Timbers in 2009, had a goal and an assist over 845 minutes played in 18 games this season.

Muhamadu, acquired August 4, played 511 minutes and started six of ten games.

Savage assisted on a goal in ten matches, eight of them starts, over 610 minutes played. He missed 20 of the team's games with a knee injry.

Smith scored a goal in regular season play for the Timbers and a goal during their play in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.
